Photos & interview with BAGRAD BADALIAN

While perusing the interwebs for content for the Photofeature #1 I came across Bagrad Badalian’s project “In The Flesh” and I quickly deduced that it needed it’s own post!

Read on to see his intriguing work and our interview with him.

Bagrad Badalian is a 21 year old photographer and graphic designer living in Brussels. He “loves to travel. take pictures”.

Interview

What made you interested in photography.
I don’t know, I remember a few years ago, I took a picture with some random camera and it felt amazing to capture something. Then I bought one and haven’t stopped since.

What was your first camera and how old were you.
I bought my first camera in 2007, I was 19 I think.

What gear are you using now
Canon. Nikon. Whatever

Who are your influences
Movie directors mostly, Andrei Tarkovski, David Lynch, Stanley Kubrick, Scorsese, others…

Your favourite project or photoshoot
My “In the Flesh” series is my favorite project. I feel like i’ve created something original.

Give some insight into your process, like, from concept to creation.In other words, do you have an idea in mind usually before you shoot, how do you get inspiration etc
I never work with a concrete and very precise idea. In my opinion, creating an interesting image has a lot to do with chance and the environnement you are creating around you. Randomness is often more interesting than something that has been created by men. Everything in nature is random, that is why it’s beatiful. A forest can never go out of fashion. So I work on my capacity to create randomness. Does that sound weird ?

Where do you stand on the digital vs film debate
Choose whatever suits you, an image is an image, however you create it.

And anything else that you’d like to say
Weed is good for your creative mind. Smoke thoughtfully and don’t forget to write everything down.
