From Lagos to London: 8 Events to Make A Note of this Summer.
Arguably one of the city’s best kept nighttime secrets, this Waffles n’ Cream party resembles something between your favourite house party and a boiler room session. For now, the location for their upcoming July edition remains unknown but, regardless of where it’s hosted, VIBES is not a party to be missed. To date, VIBES remains the best party I’ve been to in Lagos. You should go if you’re in town.
DGI-byen and Commerce & Culture proudly presents the photo exhibition: Africa Reframed at Øksnehallen. For the first time in Scandinavia, visitors can experience a select group of artists, who are currently contributing to a worldwide fascination with contemporary African photography. Africa Reframed offers insight into a versatile and creative continent, which is full of surprises and quite different from the Africa most often portrayed in the media.
The contributing photographers are: Victor Omar Diop (Senegal), Namsa Leuba (Schweiz/Guinea), Dillon Marsh and (South Africa) and Fabrice Monteiro (Senegal).Celebrating its 5th year, Africa Writes - the Royal African Society’s annual literature festival - will bring together over 50 authors, poets, publishers and experts over the course of three days. Both established and emerging talent from the African continent and its diaspora in what is now the UK’s biggest celebration of contemporary African writing taking place over an exciting summer weekend. The festival features book launches, readings, author appearances, panel discussions, youth and children’s workshops, and other activities.
Lagos Live Festival holds in the city from June 24th-26th at Freedom Park and Federal Government Press, Broad Street, Lagos Island. Included in this year’s edition are several events centered around the concept of including Chimurenga’s live pop-up studio, The Pan African Space Station at the Kongi Gallery, Freedom Park (Lagos) at 12pm to 7pm daily, theatre performances, and an exhibition category curated by Alafuro Sikoki-Coleman featuring artists Danielle Dean, Loza Maléombho, Odun Oa Orimolade, Segun Adefila and Adeju Thompson is at the Federal Government Printing Press from 10am - 7pm daily.
Curated by Saint Heron, the Saint Heron House is a part of this year’s Essence Festival taking place from Friday July 1st through Sunday July 3rd. Expect artist talks, a pop up shop and DJs spinning at evening juke joints. Location info provided upon purchasing tickets here.
Performing at this year’s Montreux Jazz Festival is Benin’s very best, the legendary Angelique Kidjo. Joining her on stage for her ‘Angelique Kidjo ‘African Women All Stars’ show on July 8th is a list of four amazing supporting acts consisting of an all African women; Lura, Dobet Gnahore, Asa and the Trio Teriba.
A monthly event centered on ‘good food, good music and good people’, THE WKND SOCIAL event concept is made up of two components:
PART 1: THE WKND SOCIAL
A pre-sold limited attendance event that takes place from 12:00 to 16:00. This GOOD FOOD full event ticket includes a 3 course meal, complimentary cocktails served until 15:00 and entry into THE WKND SOCIAL AFTER PARTY.
PART 2: THE WKND SOCIAL AFTER PARTY
This part of the event is all about GOOD MUSIC and takes place from 16:00 to 00:00. Tickets to this part of the event are pre-sold online but can also be purchased at the door.
